KARA (Korea Animal Rights Advocates) is consisted with the group of people who love animals. 

For a long time, people did not pay any attention to animal rights or protection for them at all.However, a small number of people began to notice the suffering that animals had experienced and wanted to speak out for the suffered animals.

Therefore, on April 5, 2002, these people came together and founded our organization, Arumpoom (renamed as KARA later).  About 5,000 members led many actions and provided services even though we were not professional. Basically, we focused on improving awareness of value of life, studying and suggesting to urge the amendment for the proper animal protection law, protesting animal eating, animal experiments and recreational animals, reforming welfare for farm animals and spreading out vegetarian culture.

In spite of our best effort, there were too many limitations to reach the goals that our organization had set because we mainly relied on volunteers'time and their willingness to serve through our organization.

So, in 2006, we renamed our organization as KARA and registered it as a non-profit organization.  It was intended to promote more owerful and effective protection for animals.

In the secluded corner, in the laboratory and in the farm, human greed and the trend to belittle life put animals in great pain knowingly and unknowingly.  However, animals were unspeakable and able to appeal their suffering to anyone.  Therefore, we, who shared the same thoughts and commitment got together to protect and speak out animal rights to live without suffering.

Throughout centuries, violation of human rights and life has been disappearing.  The examples are the emancipation of slaves and the emancipation of women.  As the Congress passed the law to abolish the system of the Head of the Household in Korea in 2005, women came to be treated equally by the law.  Now the animals, who are another weak entity in the world, should be assisted to obtain the right to exist with the human in the world as what they are. 

KARA will put our best effort to fulfill the goal.  We urge you to join us to protect life, spread out the value of the coexistence of human and animals in our society and reach our ultimate goal, which the cruelty to animals vanishes on earth forever.
